Less than an hour after Mom and Dad were told that I would most likely be home on Monday, Dr. Carver discovered that my ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) had advanced and it was almost certainly not going to correct itself. That means that tomorrow at about 6:30pm, I will have laser surgery to eliminate the scar tissue in both of my eyes. They will need to reintubate me and give me morphine as this can be a painful procedure. Since I have to go back on the respirator, this will set me back about a week. Mom's worried that I'll get pneumonia again being on the ventilator, but hopefully I won't be on it for that long!
The good news is my straight-ahead vision should be just fine, I will not have any peripheral vision, but I'll be able to see! We've had so many huge steps forward, it was about time for a step back, but I'm a tough little guy and I'm going to amaze everyone with how fast I recover! Just watch!
