(2,688 grams or 5 lbs. 14.8 oz.)
Today has been a BIG day for me. They've decided that I am a mouth breather and that is why I am having a little trouble with the Nasal Canula (small prongs that blow oxygen through my nose). They've decided to put me on the Nasal Canula then if I fall asleep and begin breathing through my mouth to put the oxygen hood over the top of me. We will try the dual approach and see how it goes. Mom spent all day with me and I didn't need the hood once. Today Mom and I embarked on a new adventure--breastfeeding. You might think it should be a breeze; however, for a little preemie like me, this is one of the most difficult things to learn (aside from the whole breathing thing). We did what they call non-nutritive feeding. That is where after Mom has pumped and emptied her breast they teach me to latch onto Mom. This is so I can get accustomed to Mom and practice before the real thing. I did very well for my first time. We will try it again tomorrow. Another exciting thing happened tonight, I was moved to the "feed and grow" nursery, which is across the hall from where I've been. This is an exciting move because it means that I am no longer what they call critical and the main thing I have to do now is learn to suck, breath, and swallow at the same time (nursing) and gain weight while doing so. Mom's a little nervous because it is like moving to a new neighborhood in a different state and going to a new school, but I'm sure we'll like it. It will be good to see some of our old friends who moved over before us.
