(2,589 grams or 5 lbs. 11.3 oz.)

I'm doing well under the oxygen hood. My lungs aren't getting any extra support just the extra oxygen. My oxygen needs have been between 35 and 45 percent, which is okay. I've had a hard time sleeping lately, so Mom's decided to give up Pepsi for awhile. She thinks that her breast milk may have a bit too much caffeine for my tastes. Grandma Linda and Grandpa Roger came to see me today. Grandma got to hold me for the first time and I sure loved it. I snuggled right up in her arms and kept smiling at her to make sure she knows how much I love her. Grandpa Roger had a very important job…he stood by with tissue to wipe the tears from Grandma's eyes. (Out of instinct, I think, he'd hold the Kleenex to her nose and tell her to blow. Everybody thought that was pretty funny.)

This was the night of the big eye exam. It is a pretty scary process, they have to pry my little eyes open and take a look in my retinas. Dr. Carver needed some help, so Dad (who is just freaked out by eyeballs ever since he saw a feature on TV's "That's Incredible," when he was a kid.) held my oxygen tube and had to stand there and watch! He did great! Anyway, it looks like my retinas have stalled in their development, and my blood vessels have some "shunting." In more common language, blood is going to the blood vessels in my eyes and then immediately leaving. That's not good, but not uncommon. Dr. Carver will come back next week and check again. Sometimes, this will just clear itself up, especially at my age. If it doesn't, I may have laser eye surgery to protect my sight. (you see, if it doesn't clear itself up, it might get worse and my retina could detach, which would leave me blind.) Dad's pretty worried, but I can see right now, I just don't have very much peripheral vision. We just hope that the next test has a better result than tonight's!
